'In Our Voices chronicles the stories of many families that founded the African American settlements of Chattolanee in the Greenspring Valley, MD, Cowdensville in Arbutus, MD, and provides the history of the Oblate Sisters of Providence, the first Black Order of Nuns in the world. Starting from the day 's of slavery, this book tells the story of the Black men and women that mad e the communities possible. The author, Louis S. Diggs, is a genealogist who retired from the U.S. Army and Federal Civil Service, spends his golden years researching his family roots and writing local Black histories.
